EMG iCAM® – higher yield, less waste!
System design
The EMG iCAM® system consists of an LED backlight unit ("emitter unit") below the metal strip and a camera unit above the strip. It consists of several CMOS cameras, used as receiver unit. The standard strip width is up to 2,950 mm and is scalable in steps of 250 mm (other strip widths on request).
The LED backlight unit emits infrared light in a defined spectral range in the direction of the strip. This is selected in such a way that a maximum reduction of the influence of extraneous light sources is achieved.
The light from the LED backlighting unit is shaded by the metal strip and only in the areas of the strip edges does light pass through. Accordingliy this light is detected by the CMOS cameras. Modeled after human eyes, two adjacent cameras each capture the identical position of photons on the strip from two different directions emitted by the LED backlight unit. This measuring principle is based on the stereo vision concept.
Technical details width measurement
- Measuring range: up to 2,950 mm strip width (others on request)
- Measuring accuracy:
- Width measurement: up to +/- 0.1 mm (2 sigma)
- Slit strip width measurement: up to +/- 0.05 mm (2 sigma)
- Passline detection area (Passline variation + thickness): 19 mm
- Typical areas of application
- Slitting and cut-to-length lines
- Inspection lines
- Strip processing lines
- Galvanising lines
- Coating lines
- Rewinding lines
Technical data hole detection
- The light passing through the holes is detected by the cameras and size and position of the holes can be calculated.
- Hole detection is suppressed in the 10 mm wide edge area of the material.
- Holes must not be confused with pinholes at this point.
- Smallest detectable hole size: ≥ 0.2 x 0.2 mm
(Depends on the line speed and material thickness. Deviations must be taken into account for holes that are not perfectly vertical.) - Any contamination must be avoided.
- Typical areas of application:
- Inspection lines
- Coating systems
- Galvanising systems
